The Engineering Department provides information regarding development, platting property, permit for construction in rights-of-way and easement, flood plain information, permit for working in the flood plain (fill permit), curb painting permit, current major projects under construction and other available resources.
The Engineering Department is directed by the City Engineer, Jerome (Jerry) V. Murawski, Jr., P.E. and consists of a staff of engineers, technicians, inspectors and administrative personnel. Call 972.919.2588 to be directed to the proper staff member.
The Department consists of two divisions: Engineering and Traffic
The Engineering Division
- Plans and administers the design, construction and inspection of improvements to the City’s water distribution system, sanitary sewer collection system, streets, storm water system and creeks
- Designs and administers landscape, irrigation, and recreational improvements
- Reviews the design and inspects construction of public improvements constructed as part of development
- Administers the platting of property
- Issues permits for construction within public rights-of-way and easements
- Maintains engineering records, including plats, design plans of public infrastructure and National Flood Insurance Program maps
- Oversees the acquisition and disposal of City property such as easements and rights-of-way
- Issues curb painting permits
- Issues flood plain permits
The Traffic Division
- Plans and programs traffic and thoroughfare improvements
- Evaluates the impact of new development
- Coordinates transportation planning activities with other governmental agencies such as the Texas Department of Transportation, Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA), Dallas County, and the Regional Transportation Council
- Operates and maintains the traffic signal system and the school flasher system
- Performs traffic studies
- Evaluates traffic safety
