Tax Incentives

The following economic development tools are available and negotiated on a case-by-case basis to encourage an eligible company to expand and/or relocate to Farmers Branch.

Sales Tax Exemption

The Sales Tax Exemption initiative creates a program under which the City would acquire by purchase from a qualified company personal property for an exemption in state sales tax. The City will grant a possessory interest in the equipment for a limited time and the equipment would be located at the company's premises during the use. A company must meet a minimum point criteria to be considered and a one percent administration fee is required.

Property Tax Rebate

To promote and retain high quality development in all parts of the City, the City of Farmers Branch will consider providing a real or personal property tax rebate on the appraised value of business real or personal property in accordance with the City's guidelines and criteria.

Property Tax Abatement

To promote and retain high quality development in all parts of the City, the City of Farmers Branch will consider providing a property tax abatement on the appraised value of real property improvements and business personal property in accordance with the City's guidelines and criteria for granting a tax abatement.

Tax Increment Financing

The City has established two reinvestment zones for the purpose of tax increment financing of infrastructure. See interactive map http://farmersbranch.dfwmaps.com for the location of existing zones. The City will consider using Tax Increment Financing to finance needed public improvements in a defined area. The costs of public infrastructure improvements to the area is repaid by the contribution of future tax revenues by each taxing unit that levies taxes against the property. $40,000,000 of infrastructure improvements including streets, water, sewer, lighting and landscaping are planned within the TIF No. 1 project plan. $7,500,000 of streets, water and sewer projects are included within the TIF No. 2 project plan.

Enterprise Zone

A state Enterprise Zone is located west of Interstate 35E and east of Midway. Tollway frontage included in the Enterprise Zone. See interactive map http://farmersbranch.dfwmaps.com for the location of existing Enterprise Zone. Please call the City Manager's Office for details and application package.
