The Criminal Investigations Division has the responsibility of investigating all adult criminal crimes. Each Detective receives training in a wide variety of topics, which makes them very versatile and able to investigate any type of crime. Detectives investigate leads, develop suspects and file appropriate charges with the Dallas County District Attorney for prosecution.
Although each detective is trained in many disciplines, each possesses a specialized skill. Some are trained in homicide investigations. Others are trained in financial crimes or auto theft, while others are trained in how to properly take care of victims of family violence crimes.
The Farmers Branch Police Department has a specialized unit to handle all crimes involving youth of the community as suspects or as victims. This unit also investigates and gathers intelligence on gang activity.
