The Bicycle Unit is a function of the Patrol Division. This unit was initially formed to serve the central business district, the Renaissance area, and the three schools that are located within the unit's patrol district. However, as the unit has grown through the years, it has developed into a community policing vehicle as well as a very effective crime-fighting tool. The primary responsibility of the Bicycle Unit is to practice Problem Oriented Policing, or what is commonly called Community Policing.
