The Farmers Branch Senior Center is one of the most thriving recreational facilities in the Metroplex. The current Senior Center has been in operation since 2000 and has become a staple for active seniors in Farmers Branch. 

The 22,400-square-foot facility boasts a large multi-purpose room with a hardwood dance floor, a computer lab with Internet access and a workout facility. The Senior Center offers more than 70 programs geared toward meeting the physical, mental, social and emotional needs of individuals 50 and over.

  • Monday through Wednesday 8 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. 
  • Thursday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
  • 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturdays 1 to 5 p.m. 
  • 2nd and 4th Saturdays 1 to 10 p.m. 
  • CLOSED New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter, Memorial Day, 4th and 5th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday after Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

Directions from Interstate 635, LBJ Freeway: Exit Webb Chapel Road and turn north. Go left on Valwood Parkway, then left on Dennis Lane. The Farmers Branch Senior will be located on the right. 

Directions from Interstate 35E, Stemmons Freeway: Exit Valwood Parkway and go east. Take a right on Dennis Lane. The Farmers Branch Senior Center will be on the right.

Computer Classes

Class fees are $35 per class unless otherwise noted and include instruction, books, student exercises, quick reference guide and lab time.  See schedule of classes and descriptions at the links below.

Holiday Craft Fair Registration

The Farmers Branch Senior Center Annual Holiday Craft Fair is Saturday, October 23rd from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.  Vendor registration for Farmers Branch residents only begins Thursday, July 22nd at 9 a.m.  Farmers Branch resident registration continues through Wednesday, August 4th.  All others may begin registering on and after Thursday, August 5th at 9 a.m. until spaces are filled.  Registration information and the registration form are available below under file information.

Bus Day Trips

Great trips are offered weekly with new trips posted every Friday.  Farmers Branch residents may purchase tickets the first week the trip has been posted.  Identification is required to prove Farmers Branch residency.  Non-residents may purchase tickets the following Friday if available.  Visit the front desk to register.  Upcoming trips with availability include:

  • Wednesday, September 8th - Cruisin' Cuisine goes to "FOR YOU" European Cafe.  Bus will leave the Senior Center at 10 a.m. and return at approximately 1:30 p.m.  Trip cost is $3.00 and includes transportation.  Taste original Polish cuisine with a large variety of Euorpean dishes with prices ranging from $7.00-$25.00. Lunch is at the expense of the attendee.  Trip includes limited walking. This trip is currently full.  Please call the Senior Center if interested in being placed on a waiting list. 
  • Friday, September 10th - Vocal Majority Fall Show.  Bus will leave the Senior Center at 7 p.m. and return at approximately 11:00 p.m.  Trip cost is $35.00 and includes reserved orchestra seating and transportation.  Trip includes limited walking.
  • Friday, September 17th - Grapefest in Grapevine.  Bus will leave the Senior Center at 10 a.m. and return at approximately 3 p.m.  Trip cost is $3.00 and includes transportation.  Come for the Grapestomp, festival, or both!  Browse through the many vendor booths or relax and enjoy the live entertainment.  Lunch and shopping is at the expense of the attendee.  Trip includes extended walking.   
  • Thursday, September 23rd - Best of Dallas.  Available to Farmers Branch residents only until Friday, September 3rd at 12 p.m.  Bus will leave the Senior Center at 9:45 a.m. and return at approximately 3:30 p.m.  Trip cost is $9.00 and includes transportation and a chocolate tasting at Dude, Sweet Chocolate.  Explore some of D Magazine's "Best of Dallas" businesses including the best mechanic, located in Farmers Branch, the best consignment store, Vintage Martini, lunch at the French Bistro, Lavendou Bistro, then dessert at Dude, Sweet Chocholate.  Lunch is at the expense of the attendee and includes a three-course chef's menu at $16.95 per person.  Trip includes moderate walking.      

Overnight Trips

  • Friday, December 3rd - Sunday, December 5th, 2010 - Christmas Trip to Galveston.  Available to Famers Branch residents only until Friday, July 16th at 12 p.m.  Come ye, Come ye to the most visited festival in the United States! The 37th Annual "Dickens on the Strand" in historic Galveston, Texas.   Motorcoach transportation will depart the Senior Center Friday morning at 7:30 a.m. for Galveston where attendees will stay two nights at the Baymont Inn.  The wonderful tours include Bishop's Palace, Tour of Lights at Moody Gardens, Moody Mansion, Dickens on the Strand, "The Great Storm" Seaport Musuem and the 1877 Tallship "Elissa".  On the journey home, enjoy a tour of the Bush Presidential Museum.  Double occupancy rate is $343 per person with a single supplement available for an additional $125.  Price includes transportation, tour admissions and four meals (two breakfasts and two dinners).  All other meals are at the expense of the attendee.  A $75.00 deposit is required for a reservation with final payment due October 1, 2010.  Trip insurance is recommended and available at $39 per person for double occupancy and $52 per person for single. 

Monday Night Dances

Farmers Branch Senior Center is the place to be on Monday nights. Live music and friendly people make the Farmers Branch Senior Center dances the best in the area. Tickets are $5 at the door and the dances begin at 7 p.m. Refreshments are served at intermission. Free dance lessons are offered at 6 p.m. for those attending the dance. 

  • 1st and 3rd Monday – Country Western
  • 2nd and 4th Monday – Ballroom 
  • September 6th - No Dance - Center Closed
  • September 13th - Gary Lee - Ballroom
  • September 20th - Solid Country - Country Western
  • September 27th - Charlie Patteson - Ballroom

     

Health & Fitness

The Farmers Branch Senior Center includes equipment for both cardio and strength training. In order to utilize the fitness equipment at the Senior Center, each person must attend a short orientation meeting. Fitness orientations are held Monday mornings at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m. for the cardio equipment and Friday at 9:45 a.m. for cardio and weight equipment. A 24-hour advanced notice is required either by phone or in person. 

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are the most important resource for any Senior Center. The Farmers Branch Senior Center knows that much of the success within the Center is a result of our wonderful volunteers. Senior Advisory Board
