The Farmers Branch Senior Center is one of the most thriving recreational facilities in the Metroplex. The current Senior Center has been in operation since 2000 and has become a staple for active seniors in Farmers Branch. 

The 22,400-square-foot facility boasts a large multi-purpose room with a hardwood dance floor, a computer lab with Internet access and a workout facility. The Senior Center offers more than 70 programs geared toward meeting the physical, mental, social and emotional needs of individuals 50 and over.

Hours:

  • Monday through Wednesday 8 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. 
  • Thursday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
  • 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturdays 1 to 5 p.m. 
  • 2nd and 4th Saturdays 1 to 10 p.m. 
  • CLOSED New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter, Memorial Day, 3rd and 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday after Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

Directions from Interstate 635, LBJ Freeway: Exit Webb Chapel Road and turn north. Go left on Valwood Parkway, then left on Dennis Lane. The Farmers Branch Senior will be located on the right. 

Directions from Interstate 35E, Stemmons Freeway: Exit Valwood Parkway and go east. Take a right on Dennis Lane. The Farmers Branch Senior Center will be on the right.

Computer Classes

Class fees are $35 per class unless otherwise noted and include instruction, books, student exercises, quick reference guide and lab time.  See schedule of classes and descriptions at the links below.

Bus Day Trips

Great trips are offered weekly with new trips posted every Friday.  Farmers Branch residents may purchase tickets the first week the trip has been posted.  Identification is required to prove Farmers Branch residency.  Non-residents may purchase tickets the following Friday if available.  Visit the front desk to register.  Upcoming trips with availability include:

  • Tuesday, February 9th - Frontiers of Flight Museum at Love Field.  Bus will leave the Senior Center at 10 a.m. and return at approximately 2 p.m.  Trip cost is $9.00 and includes guided tour and transportation.  Lunch at Papa's Bar-B-Q following the tour and is at the expense of the attendee.  Prices range from $4.25-$12.45.  Trip includes extended walking. 
  • Wednesday, February 10th - Cruisin' Cuisine goes to Pan Acean Restaurant.  Bus will leave the Senior Center at 11 a.m. and return at approximately 1:30 p.m.  Trip cost is $3 and includes transportation.  Lunch includes Asian dining with choices of stir-fry dishes, noodle dishes, grilled specialties, soups, or dim sum.  Prices range from $6.00-$16.00.  Trip includes limited walking.  This trip is currently full.  Call the Senior Center if interested in being placed on the waiting list.
  • Thursday, February 18th - The Modern in Fort Worth: Andy Warhol: The Last Decade.  Bus will leave the Senior Center at 10 a.m. and return at approximately 3 p.m.  Trip cost is $7.00 and includes admission and transportation.  View fifty-five works on loan from private collections and institutions created during Warhol's most productive time.  Lunch will follow at any of the local restaurants and is at the expense of the attendee.  Trip includes extended walking. 
  • Tuesday, February 23rd - Winspear Opera House.  Bus will leave the Senior Center at 9:30 a.m. and return at approximately 3 p.m.  Trip cost is $3.00 and includes transportation.  Take a behind the scenes tour of the Winspear and Wiley theaters.  Lunch is at Red Lobster following the tour and is at the expense of the attendee.  Trip includes extended walking. 
  • Thursday, February 25th - El Centro Culinary Institute.  Bus will leave the Senior Center at 11 a.m. and return at approximately 2 p.m.  Trip cost is $15.00 and includes lunch and transportation.  Students will be preparing lunch with a Russian theme.  Gratuities are not included and are used for scholarships to the Culinary Institute.  Trip includes limited walking.     
  • Thursday, March 4th - Dallas Cowboys Stadium Tour.  Available to Farmers Branch residents only until Friday, February 13th at 12 p.m.  Bus will leave the Senior Center at 10 a.m. and return at approximately 3 p.m.  Trip cost is $12.00 and includes admission and transportation.  Lunch at Souper Salad will follow the tour and is at the expense of the attendee.  Trip includes extended walking.   

Overnight Trips

  • Wednesday, April 14th-Friday, April 16th, 2010 - "Texas Bluebonnet and Hill Country Tour" - Roundtrip transportation on Eagle Tours, Inc. motor coach will include stops in Salado for lunch, tour of the Bluebonnet fields in Burnett, two winery tours and tastings, a visit to the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg, shopping, and admission to the Texas White House in Johnson City...just to name a few!  Double occupancy rates are $365 per person and includes 3 days and 2 nights lodging at the Hampton Inn Marble Falls and Fredericksburg Inn, six meals, transportation, and admissions.  A deposit of $50 per person is required at time of reservation with trip insurance optional but recommended.  Insurance rates are based on age.  Full payment is due by March 1, 2010. 
  • Saturday, July 24th - Sunday, August 1st, 2010 - "Rockies Highlights by Train" - This 9-day scenic Canadian Rocky Train Trip will start in Vancouver continues to Jasper, Ice Fields Parkway, Banff, and ends in Calgary.  Listen to the peaceful sounds of a bygone era while natural beauty comes to life aboard the first and only stainless steel domed streamliner, "The Canadian".  Double occupancy rates are $3,249 per person and include air fare, bus to the airport, train transportation, eleven meals, nine nights lodging and unforgettable sightseeing.  Single and triple occupancy rates are also available.  A deposit of $250 per person is required at time of reservation with trip insurance optional but recommended for $235 per person. 

Monday Night Dances

Farmers Branch Senior Center is the place to be on Monday nights. Live music and friendly people make the Farmers Branch Senior Center dances the best in the area. Tickets are $5 at the door and the dances begin at 7 p.m. Refreshments are served at intermission. Free dance lessons are offered at 6 p.m. for those attending the dance.

  • February 15th - Solid Country - Country Western

Health & Fitness

The Farmers Branch Senior Center includes equipment for both cardio and strength training. In order to utilize the fitness equipment at the Senior Center, each person must attend a short orientation meeting. Fitness orientations are held Monday mornings at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m. for the cardio equipment and Friday at 9:45 a.m. for cardio and weight equipment. A 24-hour advanced notice is required either by phone or in person. 

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are the most important resource for any Senior Center. The Farmers Branch Senior Center knows that much of the success within the Center is a result of our wonderful volunteers. Senior Advisory Board

The Senior Advisory Board meets at the Senior Center the second Thursday of the month at 1 p.m. To be placed on the agenda for the Board or for questions, call 972.919.8740.
