FARMERS BRANCH SIGNALS TURN GREEN!

The Traffic Engineering Division has installed new traffic signal indications at Farmers Branch's signalized intersections. The new signal indications are made of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) and replace the incandescent lamps previously used in traffic signals. 

The LED signals offer several benefits compared with traditional incandescent lamps:

 

  • LEDs use about 85% less electrical power

  • They appear brighter to motorists

  • They appear larger to motorists because the light distribution is more uniform

  • They last 4-5 times longer

  • They have fewer parts to clean and maintain

  • Their life-cycle cost is cheaper, representing a savings to the taxpayer
