  4. NEA Big Read Author Talk

    The NEA Big Read program officially kicks off with a discussion with Emily St. John Mandel, author of Station Eleven. Emily St. John Mandel is the author of four novels including Station Eleven, the NEA Big Read selection for Farmers Branch. This novel was a finalist for the National Book Award and the PEN/Faulkner Award and won the 2015 Arthur C. Clarke Award, the Toronto Book Award, and the Morning News Tournament of Books. Mandel will discuss her writings and career and answer a few questions from the audience. A book signing will take place following the discussion. Books will be available for purchase at the event. Participants are invited to attend the After-Kickoff event held at 3 Nations Brewing Company from 8 to 10 pm.

    Farmers Branch will celebrate the roses in the gardens with an exceptional slate of activities. The day begins with free registration in the Gussie Field Watterworth Pavilion. Includes a bluegrass jam session serenading participants as they select blooms for the Hands on Floral Design Workshop. Pick up gardening tips and talk with Master Gardeners. The Dallas Rose Society Rose Show will be held in City Hall. A complementary grilled hotdog lunch will be provided along with entertainment by Augusta Road.
