Charter Review Committee


The City Council met on January 16, 2018 and voted unanimously to adopt the Charter Review Committee's final report.

The City also plans to hold a May 5, 2018 Special Election for Charter Amendments.


In 2018, the Charter Review Committee will be tasked with considering major issues identified by City Council, in addition to technical amendments identified by city staff. The Charter Committee may review technical amendments which include reorganization of chapters and sections into more logical order, ensuring compliance with election provisions of state law and revisions/deletions of archaic language and unused provisions.

Per the City Charter the City Council must review the Charter in years ending in 3 and 8. The last review was completed in May 2013, with the Committee presenting 19 propositions to City Council for placement on the ballot for voters consideration. The 2013 Charter Review Committee consisted of 23 Farmers Branch residents appointed by City Council and was charged with reviewing the City’s Charter and making recommendations to City Council for both substantive and non-substantive amendments.
